Nathan James Wells (b. 1979) is an American visual artist based in Chicago. His background in Industrial Design informs his technique, while he strives to achieve a poetic quality in his work that transcends its existence as product. Combining nontraditional methods, he imbues layers into each piece, some elements left to chance and some carefully arranged. The process itself is a meditation on intention, playfully leaving ambiguous which aspects are only incidental. The result is polished work that rewards a close look, inviting the viewer to consider the capacity of their perception to shape their inner environment.
